Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate scalable, highly available backend services and APIs for the Core Platform.
- Develop and own Go and Java microservices and distributed-system components.
- Evolve centralized API layers, shared data models, API contracts, event contracts, workflow orchestration, and configuration-driven business rules.
- Build integrations using REST, GraphQL, message brokers, asynchronous messaging, and event-driven patterns.
- Build cloud-native AWS solutions and infrastructure as code for reliable deployments.
- Own service reliability through on-call participation, incident response, root-cause analysis, and lasting remediation.
- Establish monitoring, alerting, logging, metrics, and distributed-tracing practices.
- Build real-time, event-driven data pipelines for high-volume streams and live dashboards.
- Develop and enhance React web interfaces using JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Write maintainable, tested software and contribute to code reviews, design reviews, CI/CD practices, documentation, and engineering standards.
- Use and evaluate AI-assisted development tools, including Claude Code and Codex, and integrate AI/LLM capabilities where appropriate.
- Collaborate with product managers, business stakeholders, engineers, and senior and principal engineers across the Serenity Platform.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical guidance as experience grows.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software development and production deployment experience.
- Proficiency in at least one statically typed language, Go or Java, and one dynamically typed language, JavaScript/TypeScript or Python.
- Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, distributed systems, and object-oriented design.
- Experience shipping production software end to end from design through deployment and ongoing operations.
- Hands-on AWS and cloud-native application development experience.
- Working knowledge of REST and/or GraphQL API design and integration patterns.
- Experience with asynchronous APIs, message brokers such as NATS or Kafka, and API/event contracts consumed by other engineering teams.
- Understanding of relational and NoSQL databases, schema design, and query optimization.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing, and deployment practices.
- Familiarity with Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience supporting production systems on call, including incident response and postmortems.
- Demonstrated use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent, with sound judgment about generated code.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to deliver solutions amid ambiguous or evolving requirements.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident, or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
- Preferred experience includes workflow orchestration, business-rules engines, event-driven systems, real-time data, GraphQL federation, React, Terraform or AWS CDK, Datadog or OpenTelemetry, enterprise platforms, AI/LLM APIs, prompt engineering, responsible generative AI, AI-generated code evaluation, mentoring, and aerospace, manufacturing, or supply chain domains.
