Base Salary
$240k - $260k/yr
Responsibilities
- Set technical direction for how orders are modeled, stored, replicated, and reconciled.
- Design and build event-sourced and replicated-state systems that remain correct under retries, network partitions, concurrent edits, and partial failures.
- Partner with Product, Payments, Reporting, point-of-sale, and mobile engineers to ship reliable end-to-end ordering flows.
- Review designs and code, mentor engineers, and build team fluency in distributed-systems patterns.
- Improve observability, replay, and recovery while minimizing costs.
- Share platform context and document how the system works to reduce bus-factor risk.
- Work directly with restaurants to solve customer needs, including through in-person visits and phone or text communication.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience with event sourcing, CRDTs, or comparable approaches to replicated and offline-first data, such as sync engines or conflict-resolution layers.
- Experience with idempotency, optimistic concurrency, event replay, projections, and reconciliation.
- Ability to reason about node failures during operations and design resilient systems.
- Ability to learn specialized technologies quickly and improve their robustness.
- Staff-level experience leading technical direction while remaining hands-on with code.
- Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to make complex systems easier for others to understand.
- Backend experience in payment or ordering systems is preferred.
- Experience in restaurants, retail, or IT is helpful but not required.
