Responsibilities
- Own Oracle architecture, provisioning, configuration, patching, upgrades, capacity, maintenance, and decommissioning across on-premise and hybrid environments.
- Diagnose and resolve database performance issues using query optimization, indexing, database diagnostics, and system evidence.
- Operate and test backup, restore, replication, high availability, failover, disaster recovery, RPO, and RTO capabilities.
- Automate provisioning, access, maintenance, validation, and recovery workflows using scripting, infrastructure-as-code, and CI/CD.
- Support and standardize PostgreSQL and Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, or Solr platforms.
- Lead database migrations, upgrades, schema moves, database splits or consolidations, data movement, and validated low-risk cutovers.
- Establish monitoring, dashboards, alerts, baselines, SLOs, security controls, and least-privilege platform defaults.
- Support incidents, lead root-cause analysis and problem management, reduce operational toil, and collaborate with Linux, storage, network, security, and application teams.
Requirements
- Substantial hands-on experience operating Oracle databases in business-critical production environments at a platform, database engineering, or senior DBA level.
- Strong Oracle architecture and lifecycle expertise covering high availability, backup and recovery, patching, upgrades, capacity planning, and performance.
- Ability to diagnose complex Oracle performance problems and clearly communicate findings.
- Production experience with PostgreSQL or Elasticsearch, OpenSearch, Solr, or an equivalent search/indexing technology.
- Strong Linux fundamentals, particularly RHEL, including storage, filesystems, networking, processes, memory behavior, and I/O troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in Python, Bash, or another suitable systems language, with automation experience using Ansible, Terraform, or equivalent tools.
- Experience with Git-based change control, CI/CD, monitoring, alerting, operational documentation, and safe production changes.
- Experience with incident response, root-cause analysis, recovery testing, continuous improvement, and communication with engineering teams.
- Preferred experience includes Oracle RAC, ASM, Data Guard, RMAN, Enterprise Manager, CDB/PDB architecture, Data Pump, AWR, ASH, ADDM, SQL Tuning, PostgreSQL replication and HA, and search cluster operations.
- Preferred experience includes stateful services on Kubernetes or OpenShift, enterprise storage and database I/O troubleshooting, secrets management, cloud data services, and regulated or audited environments.
