Responsibilities
- Direct the technical direction of backend systems supporting critical Apple internet services.
- Design, build, and maintain software and services that improve the feature set, availability, scalability, and security of internal cloud infrastructure.
- Design and implement distributed key-value store features including automatic repairs, shard splits, and rebalances.
- Build and operate strongly consistent, distributed, ordered key-value database systems using custom transaction logs and RocksDB.
- Make tradeoffs among availability, performance, and durability for mission-critical systems.
- Collaborate with internal customer teams and storage reliability engineering.
- Develop testable, maintainable code and scalable engineering processes.
Requirements
- At least 10 years of professional software development experience on software or infrastructure systems.
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating distributed systems.
- Experience coding in Rust, C++, Java, or C#.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, an engineering-related field, or equivalent related experience.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Preferred: MS or PhD in Computer Science.
- Preferred: Track record of building, launching, and operating large-scale production internet services.
- Preferred: Knowledge of Java, non-blocking and thread-safe programming, distributed databases, distributed storage, or comparable mass-scale distributed systems.
- Preferred: Familiarity with RocksDB.
