Responsibilities
- Define and evolve the multi-quarter technical roadmap across the k0rdent engineering department.
- Design cross-cutting components and interfaces spanning cluster and state management, GPU and AI runtimes, application serving, telemetry, and SLOs.
- Establish department-wide standards for API design, testing, observability, performance, security, multi-tenancy, and operational readiness.
- Mentor Staff and Principal engineers and partner with Engineering Managers on technical career development and senior IC hiring.
- Drive technical alignment with internal engineering leaders, upstream Kubernetes and CNCF communities, OpenTelemetry, and model-serving runtimes.
- Translate customer problems into technical options and advise product and executive leadership on technical risks, costs, and timelines.
- Engage customers, contribute to upstream projects, and represent Mirantis in conferences, standards bodies, and technical publications.
Requirements
- Expert-level breadth across Kubernetes internals and cluster lifecycle, distributed systems, AI/ML workload runtimes, model serving, GPU scheduling, bursty-inference autoscaling, and observability.
- Demonstrated ability to design large-scale, multi-tenant systems that span multiple subsystems and operate in production.
- Ability to set multi-year technical strategy, prioritize architectural decisions, and sequence work against business realities.
- Track record of influencing technical direction across teams without direct authority.
- Demonstrated success mentoring Staff, Principal, and Tech Lead-level engineers and raising organizational technical standards.
- Strong written and verbal communication with engineers, executives, customers, and the broader technical community.
- Sound business judgment regarding engineering cost, revenue, risk, and technical tradeoffs.
- Strong decision-making under uncertainty, particularly in evolving AI infrastructure domains.
- Effective collaboration with product management, design, sales engineering, and customer-facing teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or 10 years of related experience.
- At least five years of technical leadership experience preferred.
