Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain high-performance, fault-tolerant distributed backend services.
- Build and optimize large-scale genomic and health data processing pipelines using Apache Spark and DuckDB.
- Design data structures, storage, and indexing strategies across PostgreSQL, Qdrant, and Redis.
- Own asynchronous event processing and workflow orchestration using AWS SQS, RabbitMQ, and BullMQ.
- Improve latency, throughput, and reliability through parallel execution, caching, and efficient data access.
- Build guardrail and quality-assurance layers that ground AI responses in genomic and scientific evidence.
- Partner with bioinformatics experts and product/design specialists on scientifically accurate and user-facing behavior.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience building and operating production backend systems at scale.
- Expert-level TypeScript experience and the ability to own production services end to end.
- Strong distributed-systems fundamentals and practical experience with systems that operate at scale.
- Hands-on experience with large-scale data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark and very large datasets.
- Deep familiarity with OLTP and OLAP data systems, including PostgreSQL and DuckDB.
- Experience with distributed event-driven systems.
- Ability to learn and work deeply in unfamiliar domains such as genomics.
- Preferred qualifications include Rust, functional programming with Scala or similar, Python for data processing, AI model training or fine-tuning, multi-agent AI orchestration, LLM APIs, vector databases, RAG pipelines, LLM observability tools, Temporal, genomics or bioinformatics, health data systems, and high-growth startup experience.
