Base Salary
$93k - $204k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop and optimize advanced search algorithms and systems using Elastic/OpenSearch.
- Apply machine learning techniques, classification models, and ranking models to improve search relevance.
- Explore and integrate agentic solutions, Retrieval-Augmented Generation, and Large Language Models into search capabilities.
- Analyze search queries, user behavior, and search performance metrics to identify optimization opportunities.
- Develop and evaluate analytical and predictive models for search-related problems.
- Use Python to examine and interpret large volumes of search data.
- Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business stakeholders to deliver search solutions.
- Provide technical communication to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Mentor engineers and help raise technical standards through design, implementation, and production support.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of professional software engineering experience, with significant depth in search or data-intensive systems.
- At least 3 years of experience with information retrieval, inverted indexes, scoring models, relevance tuning, query understanding, relevancy, and ranking.
- Demonstrated execution from design through production support.
- A track record of mentoring engineers and raising technical standards.
- Experience with AI-driven coding tools, including Claude Code and Copilot.
- Preferred experience with OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, and/or Solr.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; a high school diploma plus 4 years of relevant work experience is also accepted.
