$166k - $296k/yr
Responsibilities
- Design and ship AI systems end-to-end, including LLM-based services, retrieval and grounding pipelines, and evaluation and observability capabilities.
- Build agentic and tool-using workflows that operate across data and services while optimizing safety, latency, cost, and cloud-scale performance.
- Collaborate with research and product teams to adapt and fine-tune LLM, SLM, and multimodal models for customer scenarios.
- Lead technical direction across features and services, mentor engineers, and uphold high standards for reliability and inclusive experiences.
- Apply responsible AI, security, compliance, and appropriate data-handling practices to design and experimentation.
- Participate in on-call and operational excellence activities and lead by example.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related technical field and 8+ years of technical engineering experience with coding, or equivalent experience.
- 8+ years building and shipping production software or services, including 3+ years with modern ML and applied AI/ML systems.
- Strong coding ability in Python, C#, or C++, with cloud-service design and architecture experience.
- Hands-on experience taking LLM or ML features from prototype to production, including evaluation, safety, telemetry, and iterative improvement.
- Experience with agentic systems, model and tool orchestration, or retrieval-augmented generation.
- Expertise with Azure AI, vector stores, prompt and response evaluation, and performance optimization for LLM workloads.
- Track record of shipping applied research to production and partnering with research teams on custom or fine-tuned models.
- Ability to influence across teams and drive ambiguous, multi-partner initiatives to outcomes.
- Familiarity with responsible AI practices and inclusive design or accessibility standards.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
Benefits
- The role has a stated U.S. base pay range of $165,600-$296,400 per year, with a separate San Francisco Bay Area and New York City range.
- The position requires passing the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire or transfer and every two years thereafter.
