Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain backend services for Camunda 8’s process-data storage and serving layer across relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch.
- Own engineering initiatives from requirements breakdown and solution design through timely, high-quality delivery.
- Evolve process-data processing, retention, exposure, and streaming to external systems.
- Improve the performance and scalability of secondary storage systems and build production troubleshooting and operations tooling.
- Participate in L3 support and on-call rotations, investigating production issues with Support and SRE and feeding findings back into the product.
Requirements
- At least four years of experience as a backend engineer focused on backend systems and production data stores.
- Hands-on experience with at least one of PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, MSSQL, or Elasticsearch/OpenSearch, including query performance, indexing, and data-modeling trade-offs.
- Experience breaking down complex engineering initiatives, writing technical designs, and delivering reliably.
- Ability to investigate slow queries, execution plans, and index usage to diagnose production data issues.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills in a remote-first environment.
- Experience with workflow automation or process orchestration software is preferred.
- Experience with both relational databases and Elasticsearch/OpenSearch is preferred.
- Experience building or maintaining CI pipelines is preferred.
- Understanding of Liquibase, Flyway, or similar database migration tooling and schema evolution is preferred.
