Responsibilities
- Identify and resolve Airwallex-wide challenges using data platform solutions.
- Provide visionary technical direction and lead hands-on resolution of complex data platform problems.
- Foster a data platform community and advocate for best practices, craftsmanship, and innovation.
- Oversee the strategy, architecture, development, and operation of Airwallex’s data and AI platforms.
- Influence data-driven and AI-powered decision-making processes.
- Mentor the data platform team and support technical and professional development.
- Build a high-performing team and drive technical excellence in a fast-paced environment.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of experience in data platform or an equivalent combination of work and academic exposure in a quantitative field.
- Experience leading company-wide initiatives across multiple teams or influencing technology roadmap planning.
- Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and stakeholders to drive business outcomes.
- Ability to balance execution and velocity with research, statistical understanding, and scalable design.
- Track record of mentoring scientists, engineers, and peers.
- Technical leadership experience on significant projects involving ETL frameworks, metrics stores, infrastructure management, and data security.
- Experience building, deploying, and maintaining reliable multi-geographical data pipelines at scale.
- Familiarity with workflow or orchestration frameworks such as Airflow and dbt.
- Hands-on experience designing data processing patterns for modern Lakehouse architectures is preferred.
- Experience with tools including GCP, Databricks, BigQuery, DataProc, Kafka, Kubernetes, Spark, DataFlow, Google Cloud Storage, and Airflow is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for leadership, users, and company-wide audiences.
- Ability to evaluate technologies rapidly and conduct proofs of concept to guide architecture design.
- Experience thriving in a complex environment is preferred.
