Responsibilities
- Set technical direction across membership growth, retention, benefits, experimentation, and platform infrastructure pillars.
- Design and evolve large-scale distributed systems for membership lifecycle management, benefits eligibility and fulfillment, savings computation, and real-time personalization.
- Lead complex technical initiatives involving Eats, Rides, Grocery, Payments, Pricing, Fares, and Fulfillment Engineering teams.
- Build instrumentation, establish OKRs, and use experimentation to optimize membership coverage, conversion, engagement, and savings delivery.
- Architect highly available, low-latency systems handling millions of real-time eligibility checks, benefits applications, and personalized offer computations.
- Mentor engineers, including Senior and Staff-level individual contributors, and raise engineering standards.
- Partner with Product Management, Data Science, Marketing, and business leadership on engineering roadmaps and architecture.
- Deliver and review technical designs, code, and documentation while promoting strong service architecture, data management, and deployment practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of professional software development experience building and operating production systems.
- Strong expertise in backend development, distributed systems, and large-scale, low-latency system design.
- Experience leading complex, multi-team technical initiatives with significant cross-organizational dependencies.
- Strong cross-functional collaboration skills with Product, Data Science, Marketing, and business stakeholders.
- Proven ability to mentor and elevate Senior and Staff-level engineers.
- Preferred experience with membership, subscription, or loyalty platforms.
- Preferred experience setting technical direction for organizations with 50+ engineers across multiple teams.
- Preferred full-stack product engineering experience spanning backend services, APIs, and client integration points.
- Preferred experience with experimentation frameworks, large-scale A/B testing, pricing, personalization, recommendation systems, and multi-sided marketplaces.
- Proficiency in Go, Java, or Python, with strong performance optimization and debugging skills.
- Experience designing shared platform layers across multiple business verticals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills in ambiguous, high-impact environments.
- Familiarity with agentic AI patterns and LLM-powered systems, including driving AI adoption across engineering teams.
Benefits
- San Francisco, California-based role with a stated base salary range of $267,000-$297,000 per year.
- Eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program and may receive equity awards and other compensation.
