Responsibilities
- Design, build, and operate highly available distributed systems powering critical GitHub platform services.
- Develop scalable backend services and platform capabilities using automation and observability practices.
- Improve service reliability, performance, latency, and operational efficiency.
- Own features and services from design and implementation through production support and live-site excellence.
- Build automation to reduce operational overhead and improve engineering productivity.
- Investigate and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems, storage, networking, and service infrastructure.
- Collaborate with GitHub and Microsoft engineers on large-scale platform investments and modernization.
- Use AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve software delivery, testing, incident response, and operational excellence.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
- At least 3 years of software engineering experience building production systems.
- Strong coding skills in one or more languages such as C#, Java, Go, C++, or Python.
- Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and distributed-systems fundamentals.
- Experience building or operating large-scale backend services, cloud systems, or platform infrastructure.
- Familiarity with databases, caching systems, messaging technologies, and service-oriented architectures.
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to operate effectively in complex technical environments.
- Preferred experience with cloud platforms, containerized services, high-throughput internet-scale systems, observability, incident management, reliability engineering, production operations, GitHub, developer platforms, package management ecosystems, Go, Ruby, MySQL, Kubernetes, distributed storage, or service infrastructure.
