Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and operate highly available distributed systems powering critical GitHub platform services.
  • Develop scalable backend services and platform capabilities using automation and observability practices.
  • Improve service reliability, performance, latency, and operational efficiency.
  • Own features and services from design and implementation through production support and live-site excellence.
  • Build automation to reduce operational overhead and improve engineering productivity.
  • Investigate and resolve complex production issues across distributed systems, storage, networking, and service infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with GitHub and Microsoft engineers on large-scale platform investments and modernization.
  • Use AI-assisted engineering workflows to improve software delivery, testing, incident response, and operational excellence.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or a related field.
  • At least 3 years of software engineering experience building production systems.
  • Strong coding skills in one or more languages such as C#, Java, Go, C++, or Python.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and distributed-systems fundamentals.
  • Experience building or operating large-scale backend services, cloud systems, or platform infrastructure.
  • Familiarity with databases, caching systems, messaging technologies, and service-oriented architectures.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to operate effectively in complex technical environments.
  • Preferred experience with cloud platforms, containerized services, high-throughput internet-scale systems, observability, incident management, reliability engineering, production operations, GitHub, developer platforms, package management ecosystems, Go, Ruby, MySQL, Kubernetes, distributed storage, or service infrastructure.
