Base Salary

$162k - $180k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain scalable, modular, observable, and efficient backend services with well-defined APIs.
  • Develop real-time risk detection, mitigation, and resolution systems for Airbnb’s payments platform.
  • Build and maintain integrations with third-party vendors, payment networks, and processors.
  • Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, operations, design, and engineering teams on product features, business insights, and fraud response.
  • Implement continuous monitoring and alerting to improve risk-system quality and observability.
  • Contribute to engineering processes and technical foundations across Airbnb.

Requirements

  • Have 3+ years of relevant industry experience as a backend software engineer in payments or fintech.
  • Be proficient in at least one major programming language, preferably Java, Kotlin, or Python.
  • Have exposure to high-scale web application architecture, well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
  • Be able to deliver products end to end, including planning, implementation, and experimental A/B testing.
  • Demonstrate experience with high code quality, automated testing, experimentation, and machine learning techniques.
  • Work effectively in cross-functional teams and make data-driven technical decisions.
  • Have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in payments-domain fraud, spam detection, or mitigation is preferred but not required.
  • Experience with React or an equivalent JavaScript library is preferred.
