Responsibilities
- Own reliability and operational health for one or more Microsoft Substrate components or services in highly regulated environments.
- Participate in an on-call rotation and independently respond to production incidents for owned services.
- Diagnose and resolve production incidents with minimal supervision.
- Design and implement automation to reduce operational toil and improve service stability.
- Write and maintain production-quality code and automation for reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.
- Develop and maintain monitoring, alerting, and telemetry supporting service-level objectives and operational metrics.
- Lead post-incident reviews, including root-cause analysis and implementation of durable fixes.
- Collaborate with software engineering teams to embed reliability and operability into service design.
Requirements
- A master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field plus at least one year of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration, or equivalent experience.
- A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field plus at least two years of technical experience in software engineering, network engineering, or systems administration, or equivalent experience.
- At least two years of technical experience with large-scale cloud or distributed systems is preferred.
- Experience operating or supporting services in regulated, sovereign, or compliance-sensitive environments is preferred.
- Ability to hold an active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance.
- Ability to satisfy Microsoft, customer, and government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud background check.
- U.S. citizenship verification is required for applicable government customer and legal restrictions.
Benefits
- The typical U.S. base pay range is $102,100-$202,200 per year, with a separate range for specified San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan locations.
- Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
