Responsibilities
- Design and build query infrastructure for massive, diverse multi-tenant workloads from architecture through long-term operation.
- Develop systems and algorithms for query generation, planning, indexing, statistics, execution, and performance optimization.
- Analyze production telemetry to identify performance patterns, regressions, and systemic improvement opportunities.
- Build observability, diagnostics, automation, and AI-assisted tooling for database performance operations.
- Use feature configurations, staggered rollouts, A/B validation, and monitoring to ship safely with a zero-regression standard.
- Own SLA/SLO responsibilities and on-call rotations while investigating cross-stack production issues.
- Partner with database, runtime, platform, and application teams on query infrastructure direction and scalability.
Requirements
- Strong software engineering experience in Java or another modern object-oriented language.
- Strong understanding of relational databases and SQL.
- Solid foundation in data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
- Experience designing or operating high-scale, performance-sensitive production systems.
- Ability to debug complex software-stack problems using metrics, profiling, telemetry, and experimentation.
- Ability to design and incrementally deliver safe solutions in large-scale production environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication, ownership, learning ability, and comfort in a dynamic engineering environment.
- Preferred experience includes query optimizer internals, cost-based optimization, indexing, physical database design, large-scale multi-tenant SaaS, and query plan management.

- The position is offered with a base salary range of $117,200–$223,900 annually, or $141,200–$246,000 annually in select San Francisco and New York City metropolitan areas.
