Base Salary
$388k - $558k/yr
Responsibilities
- Co-drive build-versus-buy evaluations for centralized authorization vendors and an in-house solution.
- Design authorization policy models covering roles, permissions, relations, hierarchies, ownership, sharing, and multi-tenancy.
- Partner on low-latency authorization decision-engine architecture, caching, consistency tradeoffs, and policy audit/versioning.
- Integrate authorization checks with platform, security, and IAM teams across synchronous and asynchronous enforcement points.
- Build reference implementations, SDKs, and middleware for adoption of the centralized authorization model.
- Contribute to policy unit tests, authorization test suites, and migration from scattered checks to a single policy engine.
Requirements
- 5–8+ years of backend or software engineering experience shipping production systems.
- Hands-on experience building or working with authorization systems and strong RBAC fundamentals.
- Understanding of RBAC, ABAC, and ReBAC or Zanzibar-style authorization approaches.
- Experience evaluating or integrating policy engines or equivalent in-house systems.
- Strong systems design skills involving low-latency decision services, caching, and consistency-versus-performance tradeoffs.
- Proficiency in at least one backend stack: Java, Kotlin, Go, Node, or Python.
- Experience with policy-as-code languages or Zanzibar-inspired systems is preferred.
- Experience with build-versus-buy or vendor RFP processes is preferred.
- Familiarity with AuthN, OAuth, OIDC, and the AuthN/AuthZ boundary is preferred.
- Experience with large-scale multi-tenant SaaS platforms and external B2B organizations is preferred.
- Open-source contributions to authorization projects such as OpenFGA, Cerbos, or Casbin are preferred.
