Base Salary
$281k - $356k/yr
Responsibilities
- Develop simulator architecture improvements and frameworks that maximize performance and compute utilization.
- Set technical direction for simulator efficiency across multiple engineering teams and represent the Simulator Platform in broader Waymo performance efforts.
- Improve simulation compute usage and efficiency to support continued scaling in Waymo data centers.
- Collaborate with evaluation and infrastructure teams to identify and resolve compute performance bottlenecks across the stack.
- Design, build, and optimize the simulator for high throughput and high compute utilization in both single-instance and large-scale simulations.
- Develop high-scale performance evaluation, debugging, and software change-management processes.
- Optimize CPU utilization, latency, RAM consumption, and the allocation of computations across CPU, GPU, and TPU resources.
- Clarify and improve simulator performance measurement, including SimD and SimQueue tracking, and assess simulator support and investment needs for Open Loop evaluation.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Physics, Mathematics, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 6 years of experience with large-scale or highly complex systems.
- Proven experience setting technical vision, driving multi-quarter roadmaps, and delivering impactful data projects as a technical lead for senior engineering teams.
- Experience influencing across organizational boundaries and communicating complex technical designs, trade-offs, and strategies to senior leadership and partner engineering, data science, and product teams.
- Solid software management experience in infrastructure, systems, or performance optimization focused on end-to-end system metrics.
- Extensive experience as a technical lead in performance or software infrastructure.
- Proficiency in C++.
- Experience defining project portfolios and roadmaps focused on overall outcomes and establishing collaboration structures across teams.
- Preferred experience in robotics.
- Preferred experience with low-level optimization techniques and frameworks such as SIMD and CUDA, ML performance and frameworks, large-scale evaluation and data science, performance metrics and tooling, and large-scale software re-architecture.
