Responsibilities
- Design, build, and own backend services for distributed data streaming and processing of high-volume, high-cardinality telemetry data.
- Build and maintain Kafka-based streaming pipelines and components that feed ClickHouse.
- Own ClickHouse data modeling, query performance, partitioning, sort keys, materialized views, retention, and cost optimization.
- Deploy, scale, and operate services in production Kubernetes environments using Helm and CI/CD pipelines.
- Own observability, including metrics, logs, tracing, and customer-impact-focused alerting.
- Debug and resolve production incidents, participate in on-call, perform root-cause analysis, and operate against service-level objectives.
- Build backend services and APIs, including API contracts, data models, and schema migrations, for internal consumers, product surfaces, and AI agents.
- Contribute to analytics front ends, dashboards, funnels, exploration tools, and web and mobile capture SDKs.
- Lead complex multi-service designs across team boundaries, drive decisions to closure, and write design documents and postmortems.
- Mentor engineers and improve code review, test strategy, and automation coverage.
- Integrate and safeguard LLM-powered features, expose telemetry to AI agents, and evaluate AI feature quality using production telemetry.
Requirements
- At least 8 years of backend software engineering experience.
- At least 4 years designing and operating distributed systems.
- At least 3 years using Kubernetes in production, including Helm and CI/CD.
- At least 3 years working with Kafka or equivalent streaming and data pipelines.
- At least 3 years of on-call and production ownership experience.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a closely related technical field; a master’s degree may offset up to one year of the experience minimum, and equivalent practical experience may be considered.
- Strong production-scale backend development experience in Java, Python, Go, or equivalent.
- Hands-on experience building distributed systems for data streaming, processing, and storage.
- Solid SQL skills and experience with a columnar or analytical data store, query optimization, and physical data modeling.
- Depth in incident response and customer escalations.
- Front-end capability with JavaScript or TypeScript and React or Angular for data-heavy interfaces.
- Preferred experience with ClickHouse or another OLAP or columnar store, observability tooling, product analytics or telemetry platforms, Flink or Spark, and web or mobile SDK instrumentation.
- Working knowledge of LLM APIs, RAG pipelines, embedding stores, agent frameworks, AI-assisted debugging, prompt data privacy, AI-agent tool interfaces, and safeguards for nondeterministic components.
