Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end technical delivery of large, ambiguous infrastructure projects from design through production launch and long-term reliability.
- Architect the evolution of Stripe’s deployment orchestrator, including dependency-aware autodeploy pipelines, Kubernetes-native primitives, and fleetwide container migration.
- Extend blue-green traffic analysis and anomaly detection to earlier traffic-split stages and provide self-service onboarding for supported services.
- Lead the migration of host-based services to containerized fleetwide deployments while maintaining production operations and backward compatibility.
- Own reliability, security, maintainability, incident response, and operational excellence for the deployment platform.
- Design deployment event schemas, durability models, notification systems, and integration contracts for downstream observability and automation.
- Collaborate with Resource Automation, Feature Deployments, and service mesh teams on cloud resource management, feature rollout, change safety, and routing capabilities.
- Set technical standards, lead design reviews, mentor senior engineers, and provide decisive guidance on complex deployment infrastructure problems.
- Decompose broad platform challenges into scoped, parallelizable work for the engineering team.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience designing and shipping large-scale production infrastructure systems.
- Proven ability to lead ambiguous infrastructure projects end to end, including technical design, delivery, cross-team dependencies, and large migrations.
- Deep expertise in distributed systems and deployment orchestration, including rollout strategies, staged delivery, and failure modes.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes and container-based deployments, service lifecycle management, workload scheduling, and VM-to-container migrations.
- Strong background in service reliability, incident response, operational excellence, toil reduction, and maintainable systems.
- Broad technical impact across multiple large systems, including code review, mentorship, and setting team-level technical direction.
- Preferred experience with deployment safety systems such as anomaly detection, automated rollback, or progressive delivery.
- Preferred familiarity with event-driven architectures such as Kafka for deployment observability and notifications.
- Preferred Infrastructure as Code experience at scale, including Terraform or equivalent, and cloud governance or IAM management in AWS or Azure.
- Preferred background in developer platforms, internal tooling, feature flags, configuration distribution, audit logs, or service mesh concepts.
