Responsibilities
- Manage and optimize Proton VPN’s global infrastructure comprising thousands of servers.
- Design and implement automation systems targeting 99.95% or higher infrastructure uptime.
- Participate in the on-call rotation and troubleshoot complex problems across varied network environments and censorship scenarios.
- Develop and improve monitoring and alerting systems for real-time global infrastructure visibility.
- Engineer improvements to connectivity, stability, performance, scalability, security, and resilience.
- Collaborate with the VPN R&D Team and Procurement on infrastructure initiatives.
Requirements
- Demonstrate knowledge of Debian/Linux internals, including NFtables, the networking stack, and kernel tuning.
- Have experience with infrastructure orchestration and automation using Ansible or similar tools.
- Have Python proficiency for automation tools and operational scripts.
- Have hands-on experience with monitoring solutions such as VictoriaMetrics and Grafana.
- Understand infrastructure security principles and best practices.
- Bring strong problem-solving skills, adaptability, collaboration, and innovative thinking.
- Preferred: knowledge of UDP and TCP/IP troubleshooting and optimization.
- Preferred: experience implementing and troubleshooting OpenVPN and WireGuard.
- Preferred: knowledge of cryptography, TLS certificates, and public key infrastructure.
- Preferred: experience with high-availability systems, resilient architectures, network censorship, or restricted internet environments.
