Responsibilities
- Conduct technical discovery and translate client needs into architectures and delivery roadmaps.
- Build and extend data pipelines, cloud platforms, AI workflows, modernized systems, and user-facing products.
- Work directly within client engineering teams, participating in planning, backlogs, tools, and delivery activities.
- Evaluate technical options, communicate tradeoffs, identify risks, and recommend clear paths forward.
- Pair with, mentor, and share modern engineering practices with client teams to support knowledge transfer.
- Provide delivery updates to account leads and help small engineering pods stay on track.
- Optionally lead a small team of engineers on a client engagement.
Requirements
- Several years of professional software engineering experience delivering production software for real users.
- Depth in at least one area: backend or full-stack development, cloud and platform work, data engineering, AI/ML integration, or front-end and experience design.
- Ability to become productive quickly in unfamiliar codebases, teams, and industries.
- Experience working directly with stakeholders and communicating clearly with non-engineers.
- Practical day-to-day use of AI tools in software development.
- Prior consulting or client-facing experience is preferred.
- Experience in regulated or high-stakes environments such as aerospace, defense, finance, or healthcare is a bonus.
- Hands-on experience with AWS, Google Cloud, Azure, or Databricks is a bonus.
- Open-source contributions, including to Micronaut, Grails, or OpenDDS, are a bonus.
- Mentoring, teaching, writing, speaking, or leading a small engineering team is a bonus.
