Responsibilities
- Develop, ship, and maintain secure, tested, and performant Agent Observability and interaction features across the GitLab monolith backend and AI gateway.
- Collaborate with product management, UX, frontend, backend, and AI specialists to refine requirements and deliver product improvements.
- Design, implement, and review GraphQL and REST APIs and related backend logic.
- Improve automated testing, including RSpec and other testing frameworks.
- Share engineering standards, patterns, and learnings related to responsible AI integration.
- Participate in Tier 2 on-call rotations, troubleshoot production issues, perform root cause analysis, and improve observability and resiliency.
Requirements
- Experience building and maintaining production applications with Ruby on Rails, including background jobs, APIs, and data models.
- Experience designing or extending scalable, maintainable, and backward-compatible REST and/or GraphQL APIs.
- Strong practical experience using AI tooling in daily workflows; experience shipping AI-powered backend features and integrations is a plus.
- SQL skills and familiarity with relational databases such as PostgreSQL, including efficient queries and data modeling.
- Familiarity with Python backends and/or Vue frontends is a plus.
- Ability to collaborate effectively in an async-first, distributed, remote, cross-functional environment.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including technical proposals and documentation.
