Responsibilities
- Define and influence architectural direction across the Access Engineering portfolio.
- Lead technical strategy for initiatives spanning multiple products, systems, and engineering teams.
- Create reusable technical patterns, reference implementations, engineering standards, and architectural governance practices.
- Improve software quality, reliability, security, observability, automated testing, production readiness, performance, and operational excellence.
- Identify opportunities to improve shared tooling, platform capabilities, development workflows, and developer productivity.
- Advance the strategy for AI-assisted software development and evaluate responsible AI tools, practices, and safeguards.
- Mentor senior engineers and strengthen technical leadership, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
- Influence engineering, product, and leadership stakeholders without formal management authority.
- Contribute hands-on to software design, prototyping, troubleshooting, and critical development efforts.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including designing and building enterprise-scale software systems.
- Experience leading technical initiatives across multiple teams, products, or organizational boundaries.
- Experience designing distributed systems, APIs, integration platforms, or cloud-native applications.
- Ability to influence technical direction without formal management authority, mentor engineers, and drive engineering best practices.
- Strong capabilities in software architecture, enterprise application architecture, distributed systems, microservices, API strategy, integration patterns, event-driven architectures, scalability, and performance optimization.
- Experience with technical strategy, roadmaps, cross-team collaboration, architectural governance, technical decision-making, and large-scale complex initiatives.
- Knowledge of automated testing strategies, observability, monitoring, site reliability principles, secure software development, production readiness, and operational excellence.
- Knowledge of cloud-native architectures, infrastructure automation, modern software engineering, developer productivity, and platform engineering concepts.
- Experience evaluating or implementing AI-assisted development tools and understanding responsible AI practices and governance considerations.
- Preferred experience in healthcare, pharmacy, payer, or other regulated technology industries; healthcare interoperability or integrations; supporting organizations with 50+ developers; developer platforms or internal tooling; legacy-system modernization; engineering effectiveness metrics; AWS or other major cloud platforms; or Staff Engineer, Principal Engineer, Lead Architect, or equivalent senior individual contributor experience.
Benefits
- Base pay range is $155,300-$258,800, with potential annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities; compensation figures are excluded from the structured salary benefits field.
- Priority is given to candidates residing in the Columbus, Ohio metropolitan area.
