Base Salary

$264k - $310k/yr

Responsibilities

Own the end-to-end architecture and evolution of Robinhood’s Istio and Envoy service mesh and networking foundation.
Drive the long-term evolution of the Kubernetes compute platform, including cluster lifecycle, scheduling, control-plane architecture, and multi-region resiliency.
Redesign Terraform infrastructure provisioning into a scalable, self-service platform capability for rapid region provisioning and developer autonomy.
Diagnose and resolve issues at the Kubernetes API machinery, etcd, Envoy xDS, and Terraform provider layers, contributing upstream when appropriate.
Define technical direction across teams through architecture proposals, design reviews, and cross-functional alignment.

Deep hands-on expertise with Kubernetes internals, including the API server, controller reconciliation, etcd watch propagation, scheduler mechanics, and admission control.
Deep source-level knowledge of Istio and/or Envoy, including the xDS API and control-plane/data-plane debugging.
Wire-level knowledge of HTTP/2 and gRPC, including connection management, flow control, stream multiplexing, and observability.
Architectural-scale Terraform experience covering module design, provider internals, remote state management, and multi-region provisioning.
Production experience with Go or Python for infrastructure tooling and strong code quality, testing, and operational fundamentals.
Proven ability to drive cross-functional architectural change across large or complex engineering organizations and influence without authority.
