Responsibilities
- Identify architectural gaps and independently deliver robust, lasting solutions.
- Set technical direction, architectural standards, and engineering practices across the media stack.
- Mentor engineers, conduct code reviews, share context, and reduce knowledge silos.
- Own complex features end to end in collaboration with product managers and designers.
- Build resilient functionality across web, mobile applications, and backend services.
- Optimize web performance, server-side rendering, caching, and Core Web Vitals.
- Use AI tools and champion internal AI tooling for engineering, product, design, and editorial workflows.
- Implement progressive delivery with feature flags, dependable CI/CD pipelines, production observability, and actionable telemetry.
- Maintain production reliability, performance, security, and operational governance.
- Design or maintain high-volume consumer publishing platforms serving tens of millions of monthly impressions.
Requirements
- 7–8 years of experience shipping production software.
- Verified end-to-end ownership of at least one complex, high-traffic production system from initial design through maturity.
- Deep hands-on expertise with React, Next.js, Node.js, TypeScript, content management platforms, and backend services.
- Strong knowledge of Next.js, server-side rendering, advanced caching patterns, and Core Web Vitals optimization.
- Experience with automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing using tools such as Playwright and Maestro.
- Experience establishing automated CI/CD pipelines and embedding security practices across client and server boundaries.
- Experience designing or maintaining high-volume consumer platforms or media properties with tens of millions of monthly impressions.
- Strong communication and cross-functional collaboration skills with product managers, designers, and newsroom partners.
- Preferred experience deprecating legacy infrastructure and services.
- Preferred experience building or maintaining mobile applications with React Native and Expo.
- Preferred familiarity with Bun, Elysia, Redis, Auth0, Sanity, Google Ad Manager, Stripe billing, HubSpot, Amplitude, Google Cloud Platform, and Terraform.
