- Lead the design, development, testing, and maintenance of complex backend processors for real-time weather data.
- Own end-to-end data flows from source systems through validation to production databases, including monitoring, operational efficiency, and incident response.
- Design and implement processing capabilities for new weather providers, data formats, business requirements, and product features.
- Build backend data-processing software that is testable, deployable, reliable, performant, and scalable.
- Own database schemas and supporting SQL objects for backend processing applications.
- Drive technical alignment and resolve disagreements on complex processing solutions across engineers, operations, product, and business stakeholders.
- Investigate and resolve complex software defects, production issues, and operational incidents.
- Conduct code reviews, provide technical guidance, and mentor less experienced software developers.
- Define documentation standards for software components, workflows, and operational procedures.
- Evaluate emerging technologies and development practices for adoption in the processing platform.
- Contribute to technical planning and improvements to development processes, quality assurance practices, and team workflows.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience designing and developing backend software or distributed systems.
- Advanced experience with Scala or Java and functional programming concepts.
- Expertise developing and deploying applications in cloud environments such as Microsoft Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
- Deep experience with relational database architecture, schema design, SQL, and performance optimization at scale.
- Experience architecting solutions for XML, JSON, RESTful APIs, and regular expressions across multiple external data providers.
- Experience leading software design discussions, code reviews, and technical decision-making.
- Preferred experience with event-driven, distributed, or message-based systems; weather, environmental, geospatial, or Earth science data; external provider or API integrations; Microsoft SQL Server; Microsoft Azure; and technical guidance of other developers.
- Strong communication, analytical, troubleshooting, debugging, and problem-solving skills, including communicating technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
