Responsibilities
- Identify software development lifecycle friction and scope concrete agentic solutions.
- Design and build reliable AI-powered systems with workflow orchestration, tools, safety checks, and error recovery.
- Build and maintain evaluation tools that measure agent correctness, constraint compliance, and cost.
- Work across GitLab’s codebase wherever workflow friction exists.
- Apply distributed systems judgment to identify concurrency, scale, and deployment-related failure risks.
- Collaborate with the India-based group on roadmaps, findings, and reusable agent tooling.
- Own a greenfield problem space and help develop proven internal solutions into customer-facing capabilities.
Requirements
- Hands-on experience building reliable agentic or large language model-based systems in production, including multi-step orchestration, tool use, guardrails, and recovery patterns.
- Autonomous experience navigating unfamiliar codebases and driving solutions through completion.
- Strong distributed systems knowledge, including coordination, consistency, idempotency, rate limiting, failure modes, and degradation under load.
- Proficiency in Go, Rust, or Python, in that order of team priority, with the ability to read and modify code in the other languages.
- Helpful experience includes shipping autonomous agents, improving build systems or software development lifecycle workflows, working with globally distributed teams, managing large language model workload costs, and supporting on-premises, air-gapped, single-tenant, or software-as-a-service deployments.
