Responsibilities

  • Develop CERN network automation tools, particularly live DHCP updates and faster, more flexible IP address provisioning.
  • Extend IP Address Management support for Layer 2 interfaces and improve modeling of network interfaces, devices, and IP resources.
  • Perform backend development, database modeling, API integration, and collaboration with network engineers for production network features.
  • Maintain and further develop IT-FCS web interfaces for network and telephony change requests.
  • Design and develop modules for the internal network and telecom management framework, including firewall configuration automation and provisioning.
  • Promote and develop DevOps processes and tools to improve software automation and quality.
  • Propose and implement database-model and network-API changes supporting service integration in CERN data centers.
  • Participate in stand-by duty and, when required, work nights, Sundays, and official holidays.

Requirements

  • Experience in software development through professional experience, academic projects, internships, traineeships, or personal/open-source projects.
  • Exposure to web application development, including frontend interfaces, backend services, or both.
  • Some experience with databases, data models, or APIs in a software project.
  • Experience working in a team environment through university projects, internships, or collaborative development.
  • Strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, and React.
  • Highly desired: SQL, Oracle, PL/SQL, and UX/UI design experience.
  • Spoken and written English and a commitment to learn French.
  • Must be a national of a CERN Member or Associate Member State.
  • Must have a maximum of two years of professional experience since graduation in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree; applicants without a university degree or with a PhD are not eligible.
  • Must not have previously held a CERN fellow or graduate contract.

  • 24-month contract with a possible extension up to a maximum of 36 months.
