Responsibilities
- Lead risk engineering projects end-to-end, from discovery and solution design through development, rollout, and monitoring.
- Build systems that assess organizers, calculate reserves and exposure, manage payout decisions, and automate manual underwriting and review processes.
- Develop decision and rules engines using data such as disputes, balances, payout history, and verification state.
- Balance payment protection and fraud risk against the user experience for legitimate organizers.
- Own the reliability of shipped systems, participate in production on-call, author post-mortems, and lead incident response.
- Collaborate with Product, Payment Operations, and KYC/Verification teams on product-level discovery and decisions.
- Mentor engineers, train others on AI concepts and tools, and help raise the team’s engineering standards.
Requirements
- 7+ years of product engineering experience, including 4+ years dedicated to risk, fraud, or underwriting systems that move real money.
- Deep expertise in exposure and credit models, decision and rules engines, holds, reserves, payout limits, transaction monitoring, and related ledgers.
- Strong backend experience with Ruby on Rails, Kotlin, Python, Go, Java, or Node.js, with the ability to ramp up quickly on Ruby.
- Direct production on-call experience, including writing post-mortems and leading incident response.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and experience collaborating cross-functionally in a distributed, multicultural environment.
- Pragmatic experience using AI tools to improve engineering workflows, with the ability to mentor and train others on AI concepts.
- Preferred: experience at a merchant of record, payment facilitator, marketplace, or lender where the platform carried the loss.
- Preferred: experience automating an underwriting or periodic-review program previously handled manually.
