Responsibilities
- Lead performance work from hypothesis through instrumentation, design, benchmarking, and measured customer impact.
- Design and improve petabyte-scale components for memory efficiency, concurrency, I/O, tail latency, scalability, and reliability.
- Use profiling, flame graphs, lock-contention analysis, benchmarks, telemetry, eBPF, and continuous profiling to identify and prevent performance issues.
- Advise partner teams on architecture, roadmaps, performance trade-offs, risks, and evidence-based recommendations.
- Plan performance work, estimate effort, lead postmortems, and identify root causes of regressions.
- Mentor peers and less experienced engineers and influence technical direction across teams.
Requirements
- Advanced production C++ experience, including memory management, allocators, move semantics, cache-aware structures, and performance trade-offs.
- Deep performance engineering experience across profiling, flame graphs, lock contention, atomics, memory ordering, latency optimization, benchmarking, statistical analysis, and performance modeling.
- Experience with architecture and system design for performance, scalability, and operability.
- Experience characterizing performance in Docker and Kubernetes environments.
- Strong Python skills for tooling, benchmark harnesses, telemetry pipelines, and performance analysis.
- Knowledge of Linux performance internals, including scheduling, memory, page cache, filesystems, block I/O, and networking.
- Experience with Git and CI automation for builds, tests, benchmarks, and releases.
- Bachelor's degree plus 8 years of related experience, master's degree plus 6 years, or PhD plus 3 years.
- Preferred experience with search or storage engines, large-scale data platforms, Splunk internals, hardware-level optimization, Go or Rust, cloud infrastructure, or reproducible performance test environments.
- Track record of informing technical decisions, quantifying trade-offs, communicating clearly across audiences, and mentoring engineers.
Benefits
- Flexible hybrid work model balancing work-from-home and in-office collaboration.
- Career growth through technical ownership, leadership opportunities, coaching, and mentorship.
- Opportunities to work on petabyte-scale performance problems with measurable customer impact.
- Stable work environment with clear ownership, measurable goals, collaborative peers, and opportunities to explore open-source projects and new technologies.
- Equal opportunity employment and reasonable accommodations throughout the hiring process.
