Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, performant, and highly available distributed database solutions.
- Create database designs, data models, configurations, process documentation, and database solutions aligned with application and business requirements.
- Write complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts to support application development.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, SQL query optimization, database tuning, performance monitoring, and bottleneck analysis.
- Define performance test strategies and develop toolsets to generate synthetic datasets for repeatable performance testing.
- Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Troubleshoot production database issues with the production DBA team and maintain database health, data integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
- Perform database installation, configuration, and upgrades in lower environments.
- Provide database technology and data-modeling thought leadership, collaborate across functions, and mentor junior database engineers.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another technical field is required; a master's degree is strongly preferred.
- 5 to 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed by RDBMS databases or Snowflake.
- Extensive hands-on experience with RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer.
- Proficiency in SQL performance tuning with Microsoft SQL Server, Oracle, or Snowflake.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, communication, multitasking, and independent-working abilities.
- A minimum of 5 years working with an Agile development methodology is strongly desired.
- Expertise with hardware sizing and configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies is desirable.
- Experience with NoSQL databases is preferred.
- Experience with cloud database services such as Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS is a plus.
- Experience developing applications for financial markets is a plus.
