Responsibilities
- Design and implement scalable, performant, and highly available distributed database solutions.
- Create and maintain database designs, data models, configurations, processes, and related documentation.
- Develop complex SQL queries, stored procedures, and scripts for application development.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, tuning, monitoring, and bottleneck analysis.
- Define performance-test strategies and develop tools to generate synthetic datasets.
- Implement and manage database security, including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
- Troubleshoot production database issues with the production DBA team and maintain database health, integrity, availability, and disaster recovery.
- Install, configure, and upgrade databases in lower environments.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on database integration and platform modernization.
- Provide database technology thought leadership and technical mentorship to junior database engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or another technical field is required.
- Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- 5 to 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with enterprise applications backed by RDBMS databases or Snowflake.
- Extensive hands-on experience with RDBMS and distributed data platforms as a database developer.
- Proficiency in SQL performance tuning with MS SQL Server, Oracle, or Snowflake.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, problem-solving, communication, multitasking, and adaptability skills.
- Track record of building high-performance, production-quality software on schedule.
- At least 5 years of experience working with an Agile development methodology is strongly desired.
- Expertise with hardware sizing and configuration, operating systems, scripting, and database technologies is desirable.
- NoSQL database experience is preferred.
- Experience with Azure SQL Database or AWS RDS is a plus.
- Financial-markets application experience, including fixed income, trading, FX, risk, portfolio or wealth management, market data, or FIX, is a plus.
