Responsibilities
- Implement features and bug fixes across DigitalOcean’s key management services in Go.
- Contribute to key generation, rotation, revocation, and key lifecycle workflows.
- Implement and test data encryption key wrapping and unwrapping using key encryption key hierarchies.
- Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and maintain high standards for security-sensitive code.
- Participate in on-call rotations, investigate production issues, write runbooks, and operate contributed services.
- Develop expertise in HSM integration, cryptographic protocol design, and compliance requirements.
- Collaborate with IAM, Storage, and Database teams on the broader platform security model.
Requirements
- 2–4 years of software engineering experience building and shipping production services.
- Proficiency in Go or strong experience with another typed systems language and the ability to ramp quickly.
- Understanding of symmetric and asymmetric encryption, key derivation, and hashing.
- Understanding of distributed systems, including replication, latency trade-offs, and failure modes.
- Exposure to Kubernetes and SQL databases such as Postgres and MySQL.
- Ability to investigate production issues, document work clearly, and collaborate effectively.
- Familiarity with HSMs or cloud KMS services such as AWS KMS, GCP Cloud KMS, or HashiCorp Vault is preferred.
- Exposure to FIPS 140-2, AES-GCM, RSA, ECDSA, or cryptographic standards is preferred.
- Experience with Terraform, security-sensitive systems, compliance-adjacent systems, or gRPC microservices architecture is preferred.
