Responsibilities
- Architect observability solutions for large-scale distributed systems, microservices, cloud-native platforms, and Kubernetes environments.
- Design high-throughput telemetry ingestion, storage, query, and analytics pipelines.
- Implement and advise on OpenTelemetry instrumentation, collectors, and context propagation.
- Apply AI/ML to baselining, anomaly detection, and alert-noise reduction.
- Integrate observability platforms with CI/CD, incident management, and ITSM ecosystems.
- Address Kubernetes networking, service mesh observability, eBPF, kernel-level telemetry, performance overhead, telemetry cost controls, security, privacy, and multi-tenant isolation.
- Map technical telemetry to business transactions, user journeys, SLIs, SLOs, error budgets, and business KPIs.
- Support customer migrations from competing observability platforms and provide field insights to influence product direction.
Requirements
- Strong command of observability fundamentals, including MELT, correlation, sampling, and high-cardinality control.
- Hands-on expertise with OpenTelemetry instrumentation, collectors, and context propagation.
- Strong architectural understanding of large-scale distributed systems, microservices failure modes, cloud-native systems, and Kubernetes observability.
- Working knowledge of APM internals and runtime instrumentation across Java, .NET, Node.js, and Python.
- Experience architecting high-throughput telemetry ingestion, storage, and query pipelines.
- Strong understanding of observability data models, query-pattern analytics, security, privacy, and multi-tenant data isolation.
- Advanced familiarity with Kubernetes networking and service mesh observability.
- Exposure to eBPF, kernel-level telemetry, and zero-instrumentation techniques.
- Experience integrating with CI/CD, incident management, and ITSM ecosystems.
- Experience operating very large-scale, multi-region, or multi-tenant observability platforms is preferred.
- Prior production SRE or platform incident ownership, postmortem experience, regulated-domain experience, customer migration experience, and FinOps or cost-optimization experience are preferred.
- Open-source observability contributions, public technical content, or relevant certifications in OpenTelemetry, hyperscalers, or data domains are preferred.
