Responsibilities
- Own the cloud side of the IoT platform connecting residential IoT gateways and cloud services.
- Operate and evolve the Kubernetes-based IoT cloud platform, including deployment, scaling, and hardening of connectivity and fleet services.
- Develop and run the Eclipse Hono messaging backbone between gateways and cloud services.
- Design and build fleet-management features covering gateway lifecycles from production line to field.
- Integrate Mender to operate safe over-the-air rollouts across the device fleet.
- Contribute to load and resilience testing for messaging infrastructure and distributed systems.
- Build observability pipelines and convert metrics into monitors, alerts, and self-healing mechanisms.
- Build data pipelines and BI models that provide fleet health and performance insights.
- Collaborate with product managers, data engineers, IoT engineers, and cloud engineers to deliver scalable virtual power plant solutions.
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience building and operating cloud or distributed backend systems in production.
- Strong hands-on Kubernetes experience, ideally with GKE, and familiarity with modern cloud-native operations.
- Strong understanding of MQTT and device-to-cloud messaging at scale, including back-pressure, QoS, and fan-out.
- Experience designing and operating observability pipelines for logs, metrics, and traces in large-scale distributed systems.
- Ability to write SQL, model data, and build dashboards using data and BI tooling.
- Experience with CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and platform engineering practices.
- A reliability and security mindset, strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, and the ability to guide architectural decisions.
- Ability to work across embedded, hardware, data, and product teams and communicate clearly in English; German is a plus.
- Bonus qualifications include production experience with Eclipse Hono or comparable IoT connectivity platforms, Mender or other large-scale OTA systems, SQLMesh, Looker or LookML, Google Cloud Platform, and load testing.
