Staff Platform Engineer
Citizen HealthResponsibilities
- Set the technical direction and architecture for the agentic AI platform, including long-running sessions, real-time WhatsApp delivery, and autonomous browser, phone, and API tool execution.
- Own cloud infrastructure, deployment systems, infrastructure-as-code, and platform engineering practices end to end.
- Define SLOs, build observability, lead incident response, maintain on-call practices, and drive post-mortem improvements.
- Own the CI/CD and developer experience, reducing deployment friction and enabling frequent production releases.
- Optimize AI inference costs, model serving, GPU and compute capacity, and vendor economics with AI engineering.
- Maintain HIPAA, SOC 2, and related compliance controls while protecting patient data and containing the risks of agent tool use.
- Partner with Product, AI/ML, Data, Security, and Legal teams to prioritize platform work and mentor engineers across the organization.
- Build the platform engineering function from the ground up and eventually grow the team.
Requirements
- 8+ years of software or infrastructure engineering experience and 4+ years in a senior IC or technical leadership role on a Platform, SRE, or DevOps team.
- Deep production experience with a major cloud provider such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
- Hands-on experience with Kubernetes, infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform or Pulumi, and CI/CD tools such as GitHub Actions, ArgoCD, or Spinnaker.
- Strong programming ability in at least one of Go, Python, or TypeScript.
- Experience scaling production infrastructure through a significant growth inflection, such as 10x user growth, a new product surface, or an architectural migration.
- Experience designing for high availability, zero-downtime releases, and graceful degradation in regulated or data-intensive environments.
- Strong security fundamentals covering IAM, secrets management, network segmentation, vulnerability management, and supply-chain security.
- Experience owning infrastructure broadly in an early-stage or high-growth startup.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Preferred experience supporting AI/ML workloads, including model serving, inference optimization, GPU infrastructure, vector databases, or large-scale data pipelines.
- Preferred familiarity with agentic AI systems, multi-agent orchestration, long-running autonomous workflows, and messaging infrastructure at scale.
- Preferred background in regulated domains and familiarity with HIPAA, SOC 2, HITRUST, FedRAMP, FHIR, or HL7.
- Preferred experience growing a Platform or SRE function from generalists into a specialized team.
