Responsibilities
- Identify root causes of incidents and service degradations through detailed investigation and data analysis.
- Develop, validate, and implement mitigation steps.
- Prepare and present Incident Learning Reviews and postmortems covering incident timelines, impact, root causes, mitigations, and corrective actions.
- Identify regressions, configuration errors, and design flaws and propose systemic improvements.
- File and track bugs, design changes, and automation improvements with high-quality information.
- Partner with Software Engineering teams to resolve issues and verify fix effectiveness.
- Analyze incident trends and drive proactive remediation.
- Investigate complex code-level and architecture-level networking issues.
- Influence reliability and resilience improvements across products and services.
- Participate in on-call rotations and respond to incidents in assigned service queues.
- Use AI to improve individual and team productivity.
- Mentor peers and educate engineers through mentoring, group sessions, and collaborative case work.
Requirements
- 7+ years of technical engineering experience with coding in one or more of C, C++, C#, Java, or Python.
- Intermediate knowledge of networking fundamentals and protocols including TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, HTTP/HTTPS, and QUIC.
- Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting and diagnostics tools including Procmon and Wireshark.
- Understanding of Windows networking architecture, network virtualization, Hyper-V networking, and Software-Defined Networking integration.
- Experience with MsQuic and QUIC performance and security optimization.
- Expertise in high-performance packet processing with XDP and programmable networking with eBPF.
- Experience with Network Module Runtime or similar frameworks for binary containment, rollback, and runtime management.
- Knowledge of rebootless update mechanisms such as hotpatching frameworks.
- Familiarity with open-source networking components and undocked servicing, particularly for MsQuic, XDP, and eBPF ecosystems.
- Ability to troubleshoot complex networking issues at both operational and code levels.
- Ability to collaborate with development, support, and security teams on secure and scalable enterprise networking solutions.
- Ability to balance hands-on technical depth with strategic networking system design and performance optimization.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including documentation, knowledge articles, and mentoring.
