Base Salary
$124k - $222k/yr
Responsibilities
- Build and scale core features of Workday’s distributed tracing platform.
- Develop production-quality backend services and distributed APIs for high-throughput observability data.
- Build and optimize large-scale data pipelines using Kafka, Spark or Flink, Iceberg, S3, and ClickHouse on AWS.
- Extend distributed tracing to LLM and agentic workflows, including agent execution, tool calls, and prompt/response chains.
- Implement high-availability, fault-tolerance, retry, failover, sharding, replication, and query-optimization strategies.
- Contribute to distributed load testing, integration testing, end-to-end telemetry pipeline testing, and CI/CD automation.
- Design secure distributed environments using mutual TLS, multi-tenant authorization, and data encryption.
- Create runbooks, system design specifications, and API documentation.
Requirements
- At least 5 years of software development engineering experience.
- At least 3 years designing, building, and operating complex distributed system architectures with high availability and fault tolerance.
- At least 5 years of production-level experience with at least two of Java, Python, and Go.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Master’s degree in Computer Science, Distributed Systems, or a related field is strongly preferred.
- Experience with algorithmic development, API design, gRPC, REST, OpenTelemetry, and scalable distributed APIs.
- Hands-on experience with Kafka, Spark, Flink, or ClickHouse and large-scale data processing architectures.
- Knowledge of distributed systems, high availability, object-oriented design, system security, source control, and collaborative software development.
- Experience with Git and GitHub or Bitbucket.
- Ability to collaborate on architecture and system design and produce technical documentation.
