Base Salary

$217k - $275k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Own and develop embedded Linux platform components including kernel modules, device drivers, BSPs, bootloaders, device trees, and low-level system services.
  • Configure and extend Yocto distributions, build layers and recipes, manage machine configurations and dependencies, and produce reproducible production images.
  • Improve build and release pipelines through automation, caching, diagnostics, failure isolation, and continuous testing.
  • Profile and optimize CPU, memory, I/O, boot-time, power, and thermal behavior across the embedded stack.
  • Lead complex debugging, crash analysis, and root-cause investigations across hardware and software boundaries.
  • Develop automated tests and validation strategies covering unit, integration, boot, stress, fault-injection, hardware-in-the-loop, and regression testing.
  • Create developer-facing tooling and documentation to improve platform workflows and feedback loops.
  • Collaborate with Android Automotive OS, multimedia, connectivity, safety, validation, vehicle-program, and silicon-vendor teams.
  • Provide technical leadership through architecture reviews, code reviews, mentoring, cross-team debugging, and platform engineering standards.
  • Evaluate vendor code and recommendations while driving maintainability, performance, reliability, security, and upstream alignment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in embedded systems, kernel-level, or platform software development, including production software delivery in automotive or similarly complex embedded domains.
  • Deep expertise with embedded Linux on ARM-based SoCs, including kernel subsystems, device drivers, BSP integration, bootloaders, board bring-up, device trees, and hardware enablement.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Yocto or a comparable embedded Linux build system and commercial embedded Linux deployments.
  • Demonstrated strength in system performance, optimization, complex debugging, and root-cause analysis across hardware, kernels, drivers, middleware, and user space.
  • Experience with build systems and development tooling including Make-based flows, Git, GitHub, code review, CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and release engineering.
  • Strong proficiency in C and practical experience with Python and shell scripting such as Bash.
  • Technical leadership experience involving architecture direction, mentoring, design and code reviews, cross-team debugging, and execution across organizational boundaries.
  • Experience working with silicon vendors or strategic platform partners such as Qualcomm.
  • Preferred qualifications include a master’s degree, Linux kernel or open-source upstreaming experience, Android Automotive OS and HAL experience, multimedia pipeline familiarity, diagnostics and resilience testing, automotive safety concepts, secure boot, trusted execution environments, over-the-air updates, rollback, A/B partitions, and production recovery strategies.
  • Exposure to Site Reliability Engineering or production engineering practices involving observability, automation, incident response, and post-incident improvement.
