Base Salary
$299k - $334k/yr
Responsibilities
- Take a new database infrastructure product from alpha to general availability by working with early customers, incorporating feedback, and shaping the roadmap.
- Improve query execution, indexing, and client data loading so customer workloads remain performant as datasets and usage grow.
- Build reliable systems for schema changes, concurrent writes, permissions, recovery, migrations, and database operations.
- Create approachable product experiences for database provisioning, migrations, indexes, and other powerful database capabilities.
- Automate database provisioning and fleet operations, strengthen observability, and evolve the architecture to support many customers.
- Set technical direction, lead complex cross-team initiatives, conduct design reviews, mentor engineers, and remain hands-on across backend and client code.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience building and operating production software, with a record of setting technical direction and leading complex cross-team initiatives.
- Production relational database experience with systems such as Postgres or MySQL, including schema and index design, performance analysis, and debugging transactions, locking, and concurrency issues.
- Strong backend engineering fundamentals involving concurrency, failure handling, retries, partial failures, consistency, and reliable reads and writes.
- Experience using query plans, traces, profiles, and experiments to identify bottlenecks and validate performance improvements.
- Product judgment and the ability to translate customer problems into practical technical approaches and improved workflows.
- Backend depth with willingness to work across unfamiliar systems and client code when needed.
- Fluency with AI-assisted engineering, including responsibility for understanding and validating AI-assisted results.
- Preferred experience managing database fleets or building database platforms, including provisioning, upgrades, backups, and recovery.
- Preferred deep Postgres expertise, including advanced query optimization, performance tuning, or workload isolation for large and high-concurrency datasets.
- Preferred experience with query layers, sync engines, change-data-capture pipelines, permission systems, or reusable data abstractions.
