Responsibilities
- Own the long-term technical roadmap and architecture for clinical ML systems.
- Lead the design and implementation of LLM-powered clinical agents for consultation summarization, clinical coding, and evidence-grounded recommendations.
- Establish evaluation frameworks using real-world clinical datasets and define clinical accuracy and safety standards.
- Build production infrastructure for model and prompt versioning, guardrails, uncertainty quantification, cost optimization, and observability.
- Define safe healthcare deployment practices, including shadow testing, staged deployment, and human-in-the-loop workflows.
- Lead build-versus-buy decisions and establish online and offline performance objectives.
- Mentor Staff and Senior ML Engineers and Applied Scientists.
- Lead cross-functional initiatives with Product, Medical Affairs, Legal, and Compliance teams.
- Translate clinical needs into research questions and production systems that improve patient outcomes.
- Support compliance with EU healthcare regulations and market standards.
Requirements
- 10+ years of experience in ML/AI and 3+ years at Staff+ or Principal level leading complex, multi-team technical initiatives.
- PhD in Computer Science, AI, Statistics, or a related field, or equivalent research experience.
- Deep expertise in at least two of clinical NLP, LLM fine-tuning and evaluation, automatic speech recognition, RAG systems, or reinforcement learning.
- Expertise in Python, PyTorch/Transformers, and vLLM or similar inference tools.
- Track record of deploying ML systems in production on AWS or GCP.
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to align diverse stakeholders and explain complex technical decisions.
- Preferred: publications in top-tier ML/AI conferences or medical informatics venues.
- Preferred: experience with EU healthcare regulations including GDPR, MDR, and the AI Act.
- Preferred: prior work with clinical data or healthcare applications.
