Responsibilities

Develop test strategies and plans for inverter firmware, gateway, cloud functions, communications, safety, and grid-standard compliance.
Design and implement automated test systems in Python and Ruby for firmware development teams.
Validate Ethernet/TCP-IP, Modbus/TCP, I2C, SPI, UART, SMBus, and power line carrier interfaces using protocol and logic analyzers.
Collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers to support unit-level testing and firmware integration.
Use power meters, oscilloscopes, DC supplies, test automation, and other lab equipment for functional, efficiency, and safety testing.
Coordinate testing with Quality Assurance, Development, and Product Management within design constraints.
Coach and train new technical staff on test equipment, procedures, and automation software.

BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, and/or Computer Science.
5+ years of experience in a similar embedded firmware test, DVT, or QA engineering role; 8+ years for the Staff role.
Strong Python programming for test-equipment control, test framework development, test automation, Linux bindings, and communications packages.
Functional validation experience with Ethernet, I2C, SPI, UART, and power line carrier communication systems and protocol or logic analyzers.
Experience across embedded firmware design, implementation, testing, deployment, and maintenance, preferably in Linux/RTOS-based environments.
Experience with firmware integration and testing.
Experience with 60V high-voltage DC and 277/480V three-phase AC voltages is a plus.
Knowledge of standards including IEEE 1547, IEEE 1741 SA, CA Rule 21, HECO SRD 1.1, AS/NZS 4777.2:2015, SAND2013-9875, UK G83/2, and Sandia standards is preferred.
Knowledge of advanced grid functions and fault conditions is preferred.
Familiarity with AC grid simulators and solar panel simulators is preferred.
