Base Salary
$262k - $329k/yr
Responsibilities
- Own performance across Canva’s video creation lifecycle on web, iOS, and Android.
- Define performance metrics and service-level objectives aligned with user experience.
- Build telemetry, tracing, dashboards, alerting, regression detection, profiling, benchmarking, device-lab, and automated performance tooling.
- Deliver measurable improvements to latency, frame stability, memory usage, and battery life.
- Optimize native engine, shader, ML-effect, parallelism, caching, hardware-acceleration, and asynchronous-processing hot paths.
- Collaborate with Native Video Engine, on-device ML, and Editing teams and influence teams across time zones.
Requirements
- Experience making complex systems measurably faster and explaining performance improvements with data.
- Client-layer development experience on web, mobile, or native systems, with the ability to investigate backend or platform bottlenecks.
- Experience building performance tooling such as profilers, tracing and instrumentation, benchmarking harnesses, regression suites, or telemetry pipelines.
- Familiarity with Perf, Instruments, Perfetto, Android Studio Profiler, and Chrome DevTools, or the ability to build equivalent tools.
- Understanding of concurrency, memory behavior, and CPU/GPU cost models.
- Working knowledge of video pipelines, including playback, codecs, container formats, frame-accurate seeking, and composition, or the ability to learn quickly.
- Ability to prioritize by user impact and influence engineering teams without direct ownership.
- Strongly preferred: hands-on iOS or Android system-performance development, including UI responsiveness, startup, memory, battery, and thermal behavior.
- Preferred: C++ or Rust proficiency, graphics API familiarity, on-device ML performance experience with CoreML, TFLite, or TensorRT, WebAssembly performance tuning, and contributions to FFmpeg or Chromium.
