Base Salary

$100k - $124k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and test firmware and low-level software throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Design, implement, and maintain test strategies for embedded systems and connected-device workflows.
  • Validate firmware behavior on physical machines, sensors, dispensing mechanisms, connectivity modules, and test hardware.
  • Test OTA firmware updates for reliability, rollback safety, and fleet-wide rollout behavior.
  • Perform soak, stress, fault-injection, and boundary-condition testing to identify memory leaks, timing issues, and intermittent failures.
  • Debug firmware and isolate firmware, hardware, and integration failures using debuggers, serial consoles, and logic analyzers.
  • Collaborate with firmware, software, and hardware engineers to identify and resolve defects.
  • Document test procedures and findings, participate in design reviews, and contribute to release sign-off and quality gates.
  • Explore AI-assisted test generation, self-healing automation, and anomaly-detection tools.
  • Develop tests over UART, I2C, USB, and Wi-Fi interfaces, including power-loss, sensor-failure, and degraded-connectivity scenarios.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree or international equivalent and 2+ years of relevant QA or test engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience testing embedded systems, including C/C++, RTOS environments, and serial or wireless communication protocols.
  • Understanding of IoT or connected-device architectures and cloud-to-device communication.
  • Experience with bug tracking and test management tools such as Jira.
  • Comfort working directly with physical hardware and laboratory equipment.
  • Ability to understand embedded C/C++ code, review firmware changes, reason about failure modes, and write meaningful test cases.
  • Familiarity with multimeters, logic analyzers, J-Link debuggers, serial terminals, and other hardware debugging tools.
  • Scripting ability for test automation and CI/CD tooling is a plus.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and ability to work across firmware, software, and QA teams.
  • Additional qualifications may include hardware test rigs, oscilloscopes, protocol analyzers, IoT or connected-hardware experience, pytest-based embedded frameworks, firmware simulation or emulation, bootloaders, OTA or DFU mechanisms, AWS, infrastructure-as-code tools, custom HIL test rigs, Jira, Confluence, and AI testing or code-review tools.
  • Ability and willingness to work onsite at the Boston office 2–3 days per week.
