Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and review backend features and APIs, including services, integrations, and data access.
- Own reliability for touched services through correctness, performance, observability, and safe releases.
- Contribute to architecture, database schema, caching, deployment, and operational runbook improvements.
- Partner with product and engineering teams on requirements, estimates, and technical trade-offs.
- Review code, clarify designs, mentor engineers informally, and promote quality and learning.
- Drive process improvements involving contracts, testing, CI/CD hygiene, and operational toil reduction.
- Create and maintain technical documentation for onboarding and operations.
- Collaborate with UI engineers on API contracts, authentication flows, and end-to-end behavior.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience shipping production backend services in Java or an equivalent JVM stack.
- Experience with Spring Boot or common Spring patterns, APIs, validation, and OAuth2 or JWT authentication integration.
- Solid PostgreSQL experience including schema design, migrations, indexing, transactions, and slow-query debugging.
- Hands-on experience with Redis, Valkey, or a similar caching system, including keys, TTLs, invalidation, and failure modes.
- Experience with Gradle or Maven, unit and integration testing, code reviews, Git, and collaborative branching practices.
- Experience with Docker and deploying or operating services on AWS or a similar cloud platform.
- Understanding of metrics, logs, tracing, API contracts, versioning, backward compatibility, error handling, and idempotency.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Preferred qualifications include ad tech or high-QPS experience, Rust or other systems languages, Kubernetes, GitOps, event-driven systems, messaging, stream processing, Terraform, CloudFormation, and prior mentoring or technical leadership.
- Comfort reading, debugging, or occasionally contributing to web UI built with React, TypeScript, Vite, Material UI, TanStack Query, React Router, and Tailwind CSS.
