Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain high-scale backend services and data pipelines.
- Build features across relational, analytical or columnar, object storage, and caching systems, including schema changes and safe migrations.
- Implement and tune stream processors, data writers, distributed worker fleets, and other data-processing pipelines.
- Improve scalability, reliability, performance, and fault tolerance across the data path.
- Optimize query and write performance through indexing, query tuning, profiling, benchmarking, load testing, and hot-path improvements.
- Add production observability instrumentation and support debugging, code reviews, on-call, postmortems, and root-cause analysis.
- Lead features from technical design through implementation, deployment, and production support.
- Drive improvements in engineering practices, automated testing, security, and reliability.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 4+ years of related experience, master’s degree with 2+ years, or PhD with 0 years of relevant software engineering experience.
- Strong backend engineering experience building production-grade services and large-scale distributed systems.
- Experience with at least one relational or analytical database, including schema design, query tuning, and safe migrations.
- Experience with streaming or queueing systems such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, Pulsar, or Kinesis.
- Strong Python proficiency and experience with another backend language such as Go, Java, or C++.
- Strong foundations in system design, distributed systems, APIs, data structures, algorithms, and concurrency.
- Experience with CI/CD, automated testing, code reviews, Agile development, and production troubleshooting.
- Preferred experience includes columnar, analytical, or time-series stores; tuning queue consumers or asynchronous workers; performance testing; Kubernetes and public cloud platforms; OpenTelemetry; multi-tenant systems; quotas or rate limiting; and secure coding or privacy-by-design.
- Strong communication skills and a collaborative approach to design and code review.
