Base Salary
$199k - $248k/yr
Responsibilities
- Assess service designs for scalability and performance risks with product and platform engineering teams.
- Analyze production workloads, system metrics, and load-test results to identify bottlenecks, resource inefficiencies, and scaling limits.
- Design and build load-testing, capacity-modeling, and performance-validation frameworks.
- Improve backend service efficiency, API response times, scaling strategies, and resource utilization.
- Build automation and tooling that integrates performance validation into development pipelines.
- Participate in root-cause analysis of performance incidents and drive cross-team remediation.
- Contribute to observability standards involving SLIs, SLOs, latency budgets, and error budgets.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in software engineering, performance engineering, or site reliability engineering focused on backend systems and scalability.
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as Go or Java.
- Strong understanding of distributed systems, concurrency, resource contention, and efficient system design.
- Hands-on experience improving performance across compute, storage, database, and networking layers.
- Familiarity with load-testing and performance-benchmarking tools such as Locust, JMeter, Gatling, or custom frameworks.
- Experience with AWS or GCP and Kubernetes.
- Proficiency with observability and telemetry tools such as Prometheus, Chronosphere, Grafana, Datadog, or ELK.
- Experience with service meshes such as Istio or Envoy and cloud-native networking performance optimization is preferred.
- Exposure to capacity planning, cost optimization, resource forecasting, incident response, post-incident reviews, internal platforms, developer tooling, or performance automation frameworks is preferred.
