Responsibilities
- Shape and scale GitLab CI backend infrastructure for performance, reliability, and usability at high job volumes.
- Design and implement AI-powered agents, agentic flows, and LLM-backed tooling integrated with GitLab's Duo Agent Platform.
- Define success measures, baselines, and signals for AI in CI and use data to guide iteration.
- Build production instrumentation, observability, dashboards, and safeguards for AI-assisted CI.
- Drive measurable performance improvements involving database access, background processing, and job orchestration.
- Write secure, tested, maintainable Ruby on Rails code and reduce technical debt and operational risk.
- Lead cross-functional technical work with Product, UX, and Infrastructure across the Verify stage.
- Share engineering standards, patterns, and learnings for responsible AI integration and evidence-driven development.
Requirements
- Advanced proficiency with Ruby and Ruby on Rails in large backend codebases.
- Strong PostgreSQL skills, including data modeling, query tuning, and scaling large tables.
- Hands-on experience building, running, and debugging high-traffic production systems, ideally in CI, workflow orchestration, or infrastructure-heavy domains.
- Practical experience designing and shipping AI-powered backend features and integrations, including understanding of large language model limitations and responsible production use.
- Experience defining hypotheses, baseline metrics, instrumentation, and measurable success criteria.
- Familiarity with observability patterns and tools including metrics, logging, and tracing.
- Strong backend architecture and delivery practices, including secure design, testing, safe rollouts, and zero-downtime changes.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and experience collaborating in remote, asynchronous, cross-functional environments.
