Responsibilities
- Develop, test, verify, document, and maintain software features across the TUFLOW Software Suite, primarily TUFLOW FV.
- Interpret numerical methods, develop and review algorithms and code, and investigate complex technical and numerical modelling challenges.
- Contribute to modernising the TUFLOW codebase and improving product quality, maintainability, performance, and usability.
- Apply coastal engineering and numerical modelling expertise to software development, testing, technical support, and product planning.
- Collaborate with developers, engineers, support specialists, users, and other BMT teams on multidisciplinary initiatives.
- Engage with users and stakeholders to understand requirements and inform software development priorities.
- Prepare technical papers, guidance materials, training content, and industry or conference presentations.
- Plan and prioritise work within agreed scope, schedule, budget, and quality requirements.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or another relevant discipline.
- At least five years of postgraduate professional experience in coastal engineering and numerical modelling.
- Experience with 2D and 3D coastal hydrodynamic modelling, coastal sediment transport, wave modelling, or environmental modelling.
- Experience using coastal modelling software such as the TUFLOW Suite, Delft3D, MIKE, or a comparable platform.
- Demonstrated programming or software development experience with foundational programming proficiency.
- Strong technical, analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to explain complex technical concepts and deliver technical presentations, training, or guidance to small groups.
- Ability to work independently, exercise initiative, and contribute improvements to software development processes.
- Ability to collaborate in multidisciplinary and geographically distributed teams.
- Desirable experience developing scientific, engineering, or numerical modelling software.
- Desirable experience with modern Fortran, C/C++, CUDA, Python, MATLAB, or comparable programming and scripting languages.
- Desirable knowledge of numerical methods for hydrodynamic, sediment transport, wave, or environmental modelling.
- Desirable experience with version control, code review, automated testing, issue tracking, GIS software, spatial data workflows, and technical documentation.
