Base Salary

$166k - $331k/yr

Responsibilities

  • Design and ship AI systems from exploration through production, including LLM-based services, retrieval and grounding pipelines, evaluation, and observability.
  • Build agentic and tool-using workflows that reason across data and services while optimizing safety, latency, and cost at cloud scale.
  • Adapt and fine-tune LLMs and SLMs, including multimodal models, for real customer scenarios in partnership with research and product teams.
  • Lead technical direction across features and services, mentor engineers, and promote high engineering standards, reliability, accessibility, and inclusion.
  • Apply Responsible AI, security, and compliance practices to system design, data handling, and experimentation.
  • Participate in on-call and operational excellence activities.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of experience building and shipping production software or services, including 3+ years with modern ML such as transformer-based LLMs and applied AI/ML systems.
  • Proficiency in one or more of Python, C#, or C++, with design and architecture experience for cloud services; Azure experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience taking LLM or ML features from prototype to production, including evaluation, safety, telemetry, and iterative improvement.
  • Ability to influence across teams and drive ambiguous, multi-partner initiatives to outcomes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer, and/or government security screening requirements, including the Microsoft Cloud Background Check.
  • Preferred qualifications include experience with agentic systems, model and tool orchestration, retrieval-augmented generation, Azure AI, vector stores, prompt and response evaluation, LLM performance optimization, applied research productionization, custom or fine-tuned models, Responsible AI, and accessibility standards.

Benefits

  • The typical U.S. base pay range is $165,600-$296,400 per year; a different range applies in the San Francisco Bay Area and New York City metropolitan area.
  • The position is open for at least 5 days, with applications accepted on an ongoing basis until filled.
  • Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
