Responsibilities
- Write, maintain, and extend automated functional and integration tests in Python using pytest.
- Contribute to Jenkins CI/CD jobs for nightly builds, automated test runs, coverage reporting, and embedded hardware execution.
- Manage Docker-based test environments for reproducible and portable test execution.
- Execute and validate tests on PC/Linux systems and embedded hardware targets.
- Collaborate with developers and Product Owners to define measurable, automatable acceptance criteria.
- Monitor SonarQube or equivalent code coverage metrics and communicate coverage gaps.
- Maintain test documentation in Confluence and keep Jira test plans and executions current.
- Participate in Scrum ceremonies and represent testing in Sprint Planning and Sprint Review.
- Contribute to each team’s Definition of Done regarding test coverage.
- Rotate across R&D teams and adapt testing practices to different products, technology stacks, and test challenges.
Requirements
- Pursuing or recently completed a BS or MS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- Demonstrated strong Python skills through coursework, projects, or internship experience.
- Familiarity with unit testing, integration testing, and test frameworks.
- Comfort with Linux command-line usage, file systems, shell scripting, and log analysis.
- Proficiency with Git branching, commits, and pull-request workflows.
- Ability to read and conceptually understand C++ code.
- Experience with C/C++, Windows or Linux operating systems, and exposure to TCP/IP, 802.11, or Bluetooth.
- Some engineering-related experience outside the classroom, such as an internship, co-op, hackathon, research project, or related experience.
- Strong written and verbal English communication skills and ability to work collaboratively.
- Ability to learn new technologies and adapt to changing projects and priorities.
- Ability and willingness to accept a temporary assignment in another country or location.
- Legal eligibility to live and work at international VIAVI sites during program rotations.
- Preferred qualifications include hands-on pytest, CI/CD, Docker, embedded systems, C++ unit-testing frameworks, optical networking or telecommunications, Scrum, or software-development internship experience.
